Case A Case of Recurrent Pneumonia & Sepsis

PC: 77yo female presented with SOB, fever & chills 5/7. intubated on admission due to worsening SOB.

PMHx: Recurrent chest infections over past 6/12, HTN, emphysema, CHF and lower limb lymphoedema.

O/E: Rhonchi in all 4 zones, bilateral crackles at lung bases. Rest of examination was non-significant.

Labs: WBC=22,000. Neutrophils = 25, Bands = 52, and lymphocytes =1

Rx at this time: IMIPENIM & MOXIFLOXACIN

Microbiology: H. influenzae in blood, staph. aureus in sputum
